Overall, I stand by the 4 stars purely for the Lego set itself and the idea of the haunted sets as I think it's a good addition to the existing lego sets, but would prefer it without the app side, as it's not something I want my children spending long on anyway. This is a BRAND NEW set of LEGO® Hidden Side 70422 Shrimp Shack Attack from 2019. Lego is also very good at being used alone or played/built together with friends/family, but unless you have a few spare devices that you want to hand out and don't mind the battery being drained, the app part of it isn't great to be used with others. It does work on mine, so I have the pleasure of constantly being asked if my son can borrow my phone, and I don't buy lego so he can stare at it through a phone. Despite having a brand new phone, it is not compatible with my husbands phone so there will probably be some people assuming it will work and it doesn't. There is no real reason why you would need the set at all to play the games, other than they want you to spend more money. But the app is nothing more than a video game, with very little interaction with the set. Lego is well known and loved for the creative aspect and allowing a child to use their imagination (which the set itself does as per my comments above). You seem to pay a premium for the amount of lego you actually get because you also get to use the app with the set. However, the app part isn't so appealing (as a parent). The Hidden Side theme in general seems very appealing to my 7 year old, and fits in well with any other sets as he's already made every other building/vehicle from various other Lego City sets "haunted" and plays with them alongside the new Hidden Side sets. The actual lego set is as you expect from lego, well made, fits together well, good amount of building for the age range.
